Inexpensive Ways to Beef up Your Home Security

When it comes to your home’s security, you can never be too sure. Homeowners are always on the lookout for ways to amp up their security without alerting the neighbours and breaking the bank. Fortunately, we have scoured high and low to provide you some of the lesser-known ways you can improve your home’s security. Read on to find out more.

  1. Install a lockbox.

We have all – at one point or another – left spare keys under a pot or mat. This is one of the oldest tricks in the book and its not fooling anyone, anymore. Instead of vulnerably leaving spare keys under pots and mats, opt to install a lock box that is equipped with a security combination. This way, you are assured that only those you trust have access to your keys.

It is also a good idea to install the lockbox in an inconspicuous location for added security.

  1. Use a generic CCTV sticker.

You might think installing a sticker informing intruders that they are being watched will scare them off- not. This will, in fact, give them an idea on how they can disable the camera by knowing what model you have.

Try to use generic stickers that don’t give your CCTV’s brand and make away.

  1. Don’t look like a target.

We know you worked hard for everything you have and it is only human to want to show some of it off but putting out all your precious possessions out on display just makes you an easy target.

If you have expensive cars, park it inside your garage out of plain sight and don’t bring it out if you don’t have to.

  1. Try to switch things up.

Intruders rely heavily on your routine – what time you leave for work, what time do you normally turn, etc. – so make sure to switch things up throughout the week to throw them off.

Remember, robbing a house is a form of organized crime – this means they do their research. Always be one step ahead and do your best not to fall into an obvious routine.

  1. Install door and window alarms.

Installing inconspicuous door and window alarms can throw any heists off track. These seemingly small but terrible alarms can even alert the neighbours if there is anyone trying to break in your home.

It is also a good idea to have your doors and windows checked to make sure everything is bolted securely. George Kent offers quality door and window replacement services in and around the greater Ontario area. Call us at 1.800.668.5439 now.
